Background:

Dr. Fred Arthur Weaver is a professor of surgery at the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California. He received his general and vascular surgery training as well as a research fellowship in transplantation at Vanderbilt University from 1979-86. He was later appointed to the USC faculty as an assistant professor of surgery, and eventually promoted to professor of surgery in 1999. Dr. Weaver is currently a co-director of USC’s Cardiac and Vascular Institute and chief of vascular surgery and endovascular therapy. Dr. Weaver is board certified by the American Board of Surgery, with added qualifications in vascular surgery and surgical critical care. He served as program director for general surgery from 1996-2000, is currently the program director for vascular surgery at the Keck School of Medicine and is the director of the Max R. Gaspar Symposium, an annual meeting which highlights advances in the treatment of vascular disease.

Dr. Weaver is known for his strong teaching, scholarly contributions, and devotion to patient care and the practice of vascular surgery. He is a member of the American Surgical Association, Society for Vascular Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. His scholarly contributions include over 150 published articles and book chapters. His major clinical and research interests concern the diagnosis and management of carotid artery disease, aortic aneurysms and renal artery disease and hypertension. He has an active and diverse clinical practice at USC University Hospital where he performs both endovascular and open reconstructive vascular procedures.
