USC’s ophthalmology program is centered at the world-renowned Doheny Eye Institute, which is recognized as a world leader in basic and clinical vision research and advanced patient care. In fact, in recent years, U.S. News & World Report and Ophthalmology Times have ranked the USC Department of Ophthalmology and the Doheny Eye Institute among the top 10 ophthalmology programs in the country. The Doheny Eye Institute advances patient care through innovation, research and education.
The Doctors of USC in the Doheny Eye Medical Group translate laboratory research to clinical services, and implement the research findings to provide specialized patient care. The Doheny Eye Institute focuses its research interests on macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma, three of the most common causes of vision loss in the United States. The Doheny Retina Institute team has made significant progress with its long-term study of the retinal prosthesis, which may help restore sight to patients with blinding retinal disorders.
